Visa to Ukraine

General information

  • Check here whether you need a visa to enter Ukraine;
  • Every foreigner/stateless person who is required to have a visa to be able to enter Ukraine may apply for their visa to the Consulate of Ukraine in Milan not earlier than 3 months before the date of their planned entry to Ukraine;
  • Italian citizens planning tourist or business trips to Ukraine lasting up to 90 days within a period of 180 days do not require a visa;
  • Italian citizens who intend to stay in Ukraine for more than 90 days do need a long-term D-type visa; upon arrival to Ukraine on D-visa such citizens are required to apply for a residence permit at the local office of the State Migration Service of Ukraine;
  • The passport of the person requesting the visa has to be valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended stay in Ukraine and have at least two blank visa designated pages.

  • Use the same platform to schedule an appointment.
  • The applicant is supposed to upload a photo. Please note that 1 passport-sized, recent ID picture in ISO/IECI format is requested.
  • Presentation of documents required does not guarantee issuance of a visa.

Visa types

  • transit (B-type) visa: B-type visas are issued in cases where a foreigner/stateless person intends to transit through Ukraine and each transit period does not exceed 5 days. B type visas are issued as single / double / multiple entry visas valid for a maximum of 1 year or another period depending on supporting documents;
  • short-term (C-type) visa: C type visas are issued in cases where a foreigner/stateless person intends to stay in Ukraine for up to 90 days within every 180 days. C type visas are issued as single / double / multiple entry visas valid for 6 months or another period depending on supporting documents but cannot be issued for more than a 5 year-term;
  • long-term (D-type) visa: D type visas are issued in cases where a foreigner/stateless person intends to apply for a temporary residence permit to stay in Ukraine for more than 90 days. D type visas are issued as multiple entry visas valid for 90 days.

Every foreigner or stateless person who is required to have a visa to be able to enter Ukraine may apply for their visa to the Consulate of Ukraine in Milan not earlier than 3 months before the date of their planned entry to Ukraine.


A C-type visa cannot be requested by nationals of "visa-free" countries from the list of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.


In some cases it is possible to request an e-Visa. Please consult the list of eligible countries.


Pertinent documentation for short-term C-type visas:

  1. Application form. The application is to be printed out, dated and signed twice, box 36 and under the statements at the very bottom. Please use the same website to schedule an interview appointment with the consular office;
  2. 1 passport-sized (3,5x4,5 cm), recent ID picture in ISO/IECI format;
  3. Passport (original + 1 copy of the first page) valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended stay in Ukraine and having at least two blank visa designated pages;
  4. Document proving the purpose of your stay: 
    • C-01 (business): 4.1. Copy of an invitation letter from an entity/company/organization registered in Ukraine, presented on the official letterhead, with indication of the entity/company/organization's number according to Ukraine’s Unified State Registry of Legal Entities, Individual Entrepreneurs and Citizens’ Associations, registration number, date and signature, full name of the invited person, information about his/her date and place of birth, nationality, passport details, place of residence, purpose of visit, duration of intended visit to Ukraine, number of entries and place of stay in Ukraine, legal person’s obligations to cover costs related to the invited person’s stay and/or departure from Ukraine; 4.2. Round-trip tickets;
    • C-02 (private): 4.1. Original of the notarized invitation letter from Ukraine’s national or a foreigner/stateless person who legally resides (temporarily or permanently) in Ukraine. Invitation should contain full surname and name(s) of the inviting person, details of his/her passport and temporary or permanent residency permit (for a foreigner/stateless person), address, and full name of the invited person, information about his/her date and place of birth, nationality, passport details, place of residence, purpose of visit, duration of intended visit to Ukraine, number of entries and place of stay in Ukraine, inviting person’s obligations to cover costs related to the applicant’s stay and/or departure from Ukraine; 4.2. Copies of the inviting person’s Ukrainian passport (if an inviting person is Ukraine’s national) or copies of the foreigner’s/stateless person’s passport and their Ukrainian temporary/permanent residency permit (if an inviting person is a foreigner/stateless person) should be provided as well;
    • C-06 (tourism): 4.1. Round-trip tickets; 4.2. Hotel/accommodation booking(s); 4.3. If applicable, program of stay, information on the tour(s) and the tour(s’) timeframes; 4.4. If applicable, tourist agency details, transfer details, sightseeing information;
  5. Travel Medical Insurance stating coverage with a minimum of 30 000 euro valid for Ukraine for the entire duration of your trip, covering the costs associated with the treatment of COVID-19 and eventual observation; can be purchased both in Italy and Ukraine;
  6. Proof of sufficient financial means for the intended journey; the minimal sum requested is calculated as follows: 2 019 UAH/day + 10 093 UAH;
  7. Italian residence permit, if applicable (original + 1 copy of both sides).


Presentation of documents required does not guarantee issuance of a visa.

Processing of visa requests may take up to 30 working days.


Applicants for a C-type visa must pay a non-refundable visa processing fee. Nationals of certain countries are required to pay visa issuance fees (called “Reciprocity Fees“) in addition to the mandatory visa application processing fee. The Consulate will advise applicants directly regarding the amount of the visa fee thus determined. The fee must be paid directly to the Consulate itself via credit card.

  4. Document proving the purpose of your stay:
    • D-01 (immigration): Copy of the immigration permit issued by a local office of Ukraine’s State Migration Service;
    • D-04 (employment): Certified copy of the work permit issued by Ukraine’s State Centre for Employment. Foreigners/stateless persons exempt from the requirement to obtain a work permit in order to be employed in Ukraine are to provide a copy of the work contract;
    • D-05 (international technical assistance): 4.1. Invitation letter issued by a relevant Ukraine’s state authority/entity/organisation that is a recipient of international technical assistance; 4.2. Confirmation of the registration of the relevant international technical assistance project;
    • D-10 (cultural exchange/volunteering): Invitation letter issued by Ukraine’s relevant government authority which implements respective cultural, educational, scientific, sport or volunteering programs or an invitation letter issued by an entity/institution/organisation engaging volunteers in their activities accompanied by the copy of that entity/institution/organisation’s state registration certificate;
    • D-13 (study): Letter of invitation to study issued by a higher education institution and registered according to the procedure established by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine;
    • D-14 (family reunion): 4.1. Certificate of Marriage with the citizen of Ukraine (legalised and translated into Ukrainian if issued by an Italian authority); 4.2. Copy of the first page of the passport of the Ukrainian citizen;
    • D-16 (special international treaties): can be requested only if such a possibility is foreseen by an international treaty signed by Ukraine;
  5. Travel Medical Insurance stating coverage with a minimum of 30.000 euro valid for Ukraine for the entire duration of your trip, covering the costs associated with the treatment of COVID-19 and eventual observation; can be purchased both in Italy and Ukraine;
  6. Proof of sufficient financial means for the intended journey; the minimal sum requested is 191 773 UAH.


Presentation of documents required does not guarantee issuance of a visa.  

Processing of visa requests may take up to 30 working days. In some cases an urgent processing (1-5 working days) may be requested. 


Applicants for a D-type visa must pay a non-refundable visa processing fee. For Italian citizens the visa processing fee is 126 euro; in urgent cases, the fee amounts to 252 euro.
